Sutton played Banstead on Saturday 5th May to kick off the 2018 season in this feature match between two of the four clubs (Sunbury and East Molesey being the other two) that played in the first season (1968) of the Surrey Championship to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the league.
Our first 'on the field" event could not have started in better fashion with glorious sunshine and beautiful surroundings.
Spectators numbering in the hundreds were treated to a great cricket match. Pride of place went to the many guests from both sides playing in 1968 and lasting memories were exchanged - again!!
Family and friends of Eaton Swabey were also present for the official opening of the Memorial Garden. A sumptious tea was provided and the match was only concluded on the last ball of the day with Banstead winning by just a single run.
What a great day. Thank you to both clubs.
