Many of you will be aware that, last year, as part of the Championship's 50th anniversary, Martyn Holloway-Neville was able to track down and store every league table in the Championship and Surrey County League's history. Many thanks to those who contributed vast reams of paperwork, yearbooks and data to help complete this. If you didn't see the document last year here's a link to the extensive piece of work Martyn undertook.
Over 2019, Martyn has been looking to expand this by including three further leagues and he has the following request for information.
The I'Anson Cup Competitions have a commendable history, and I have league tables way back into the distant past. It is the other two leagues that I ham having more difficulty with.
The Surrey Cricketers League existed alongside the Championship in its earliest years and merged with the Championship before the 1987 season. Reigate Priory has been excellent in providing most of the league's tables via some Yearbooks. However, the earliest years of the league (1971 - 1973) and certain clubs (inc. Esher, the defunct Oatlands Park and Wimbledon) are missing. I'd be grateful for any information clubs may have on these early years.
The Surrey Downs League began as the Arun Valley League in the mid-1970s and has seen plenty of changes over the years. Sadly, much of the early years seem to have been lost to time. If anyone has any information on the league in the pre-Play-Cricket era, I want to hear from you.
Thanks very much for your help. Creating these archives are an important part of documenting and remembering past successes. It's important we do so now before more information is irretrievably lost.
Kind regards,
Martyn Holloway-Neville
