East Molesey played Sunbury in our second feature match of the season on Saturday 26 May. The match was a celebration of the two teams who together with Sutton and Banstead were the only four remaining clubs in the top division from the 17 founder member clubs 50 years ago.
Once more glorious sunshine (there are fewer more delightful cricket grounds in Surrey than East Molesey) was the order of the day for this being week four of the Surrey Championship 50th anniversary season.
Guests from 1968 on both sides were treated to a magnificent lunch, organised by East Molesey Chairman Brendon Lynch and the committee, and then afterwards treated to speeches of gratitude from the three Presidents - Roland Walton from Surrey Championship, Bob Page from Sunbury and Malcolm Lawford from East Molesey.
On the field a remarkable spell of bowling from Sunbury's Kevin Smith (pictured above - credit - Sunbury CC) with figures of 9 wickets for 8 runs, brought proceedings to an early conclusion, but the "bon homie" continued in the bar and another magnificent day. Thank you to both clubs for their hospitality.
